This is the newer of two computer controlled shaping machines at the Lost Surfboard factory in San Clemente, California. This thing turns out more than 20 boards per day. We will be posting video from this visit on thekiteboarder.com very soon.

Yes, I was back in Baja again, this time with the crew from CaliKites, a kiteboarding shop based in Coronado, California. They rented a huge bus, filled it with 50 kiteboarders, and took over the Desert Inn (formerly La Pinta) hotel on the beach in San Quintin. Madness ensued. We walked down to Shelter Island last night to watch the San Diego fireworks show. This was my favorite photo from the evening.

Robin and I made a quick trip down to San Quintin, Baja last month. San Quintin is an excellent place to get away from the stress of Southern California life and, as the locals complain non-stop about the never-ending wind, is a perfect place to get some kiteboarding in. On this trip, the wind didn’t cooperate as usual, so we mainly just relaxed and decompressed for a weekend.

Here are some more images from the shoot I did with Dimitri Maramenides a little while back. One of these images is the one that landed on the cover of The Kiteboarder Magazine. Dimitri is a wild man and I spent a lot of time ducking and diving underwater so he wouldn’t take me out. All images taken with a Canon 30D and Zenitar Fisheye in an SPL Housing.

Well, I joined the masses and signed up for an account on Twitter. You can follow Paul Lang Photography at http://twitter.com/paullangphoto
I still don’t get it, but I’m trying.
Last week, I was lucky enough to find myself on a press trip to Aruba with a group of travel writers who were going to learn how to kiteboard while on the island. I had a great time over there and met a ton of great people. The license plates on Aruba say ONE HAPPY ISLAND, and they mean it. Check out the photos at http://www.paullangphotography.com/aruba
Check out a gallery I posted of pictures from the 2009 Pismo Beach KiteXpo held a few weeks ago. The event went great, with tons of kiteboarders showing up to try the latest gear and just plain have a good time. You can find the gallery at http://paullangphotography.com/pismo_09/

I went for a paddle around Shelter Island in San Diego Bay on my stand up board the other day, and was almost back home when I noticed a really interesting boat. It was a 65′ long black boat that looked like a pirate ship, cannons and all. I cruised over for a closer look, and was quickly invited on board to warm up my feet and have a cocktail. What the hell, why not?
I ended up hanging out with the crew of the Buccaneer for hours. They were stopped in San Diego on their way to Costa Rica, where they were going to be using the boat for day charters and snorkel trips. The captain of this crew is Dan Catalano, who is an absolute character. This guy is a real life pirate. He has no intentions of coming back to the USA after this trip. Dan used to be a model and was, for a time, the Marlborough Man.

A few hours later, I decided it was time for me to get home, just a short paddle away. The pirates on the Buccaneer had got me so drunk I fell off my board three times before I got back to the beach near my house. The whole way everyone on the boat, who by this time were all wearing pirate outfits, cheered me on.
The next day, I stopped by to say hi and to make sure I hadn’t imagined the whole encounter. Everyone on the boat was waiting for someone to show up to teach them how to fire their cannons. The boat was gone a few days later, and I have no doubt that they are now somewhere off of Baja, firing cannons and partying their way to Costa Rica.
