This is a sight that doesn’t get seen very much, as the ice is usually covered by snow. Temperatures are getting above freezing every day, leading to a constant cycle of freeze and thaw that has created beautiful patterns in the ice.

Got up early this morning in time to catch the total lunar eclipse over Santa Barbara, Calirornia.

One of the perks of being based on the California coast is the amazing weather we can have here. While people living in other parts of the country are having to deal with winter storms and snow, we’re still playing in the water.

You might not recognize the name of McWay Falls, but you’ve probably seen photos of it before. It’s the beautiful waterfall that lands on the beach in Big Sur. It’s located next to the famous California Highway 1, but it’s not visible from the road, so it’s easy to miss.

I happened to be passing through the area so I stopped to make a 360×180 panorama of the overlook for the falls. Let me know what you think. I’ve been experimenting with these panoramas for a little while and I’m excited about what you can do with them. We just returned from a relaxing long weekend in Big Sur and we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather the entire time. If you’ve never been to Big Sur, it’s easy to pass through the area without really noticing anything spectacular about it, but once you start exploring trails and narrow winding roads you can find some amazing sights.

After wrapping up the 2011 Pismo Beach KiteXpo, I was able to spend a day enjoying excellent conditions on the Central Coast. The wind was up early, so I met the Liquid Force Kiteboarding crew at Jalama for a morning kiteboarding session. We were out of there by 2:30 pm and on our way to Ventura.

In Ventura, we met with Jason and Fletcher at Patagonia and chilled at the FCD surf shop since there wasn’t any wind at C-Street. Late in the day, the trees began to move, so we went down to the beach to check it out.

You could see the wind just offshore, but it wasn’t filling in all the way to the beach. Then, suddenly, sand started blowing down the beach and the wind speed built to over 30 knots and stayed there until sunset.

During the 2011 Pismo Beach KiteXpo, I decided to mount a GoPro HD to my camera housing as an experiment to see what the view would look like. Basically, here’s a taste of what I see when I swim out to take photos of kiteboarders in the water.
