A few of the photos I shot of Shawn Watson the other day landed on alliancewake.com, the website for Alliance Wakeboarding magazine. Check it out here!

I had a chance to shoot Shawn Watson from Liquid Force Wakeboarding while he was at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center in San Diego.

My parents bought a beautiful 1959 Owens Flagship a few months ago and I ended up helping them do a little work to it while I was visiting. They needed to have a survey done in order to get insurance, so I moved the boat from Vallejo up to the Napa Valley Marina. The surveyor found a bunch of minor problems, so we spent the weekend doing repairs and repainting the bottom.

The cruise from Vallejo only took about an hour, and there are so few boats along the way that I was conviced that I was going the wrong way. The Napa River is lined with a number of houses, some big and new and some small and old, all of which have docks in front of them. I felt like an old moviestar putting by in the classic wooden boat.

I was near Redding visiting family for the weekend and went over to the Redding Sundial Bride to take a few photos, as it’s always interesting to shoot. I still have a hard time believing that this modern pedestrian bridge is in Redding, but it seems to have become THE tourist attraction for the town.

I usually don’t get all that worked up about what politicians say, seeing as how they say a lot of things that might cause one to throw shoes and other solid objects at the television. It’s usually best to take comments during a campaign with a grain of salt, but one comment in particular of Sarah Palin’s has gotten really under my skin. When asked why she didn’t get a passport until last year, her response was that she didn’t have parents that bought her a passport and sent her backpacking Europe after college. She was not a part of that culture. What a load of crap.

For her to make a comment like that is total and complete ignorance. I didn’t have parents who could afford to send me backpacking through Europe, but that hasn’t stopped me from traveling. If you have an interest in seeing other places and learning about other people, you find a way to do it. It doesn’t take much money to travel. She has claimed that Alaska’s proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, but has she ever been there? How can someone be expected to be on the world stage of diplomacy when they think that all international travelers are spoiled brats?

A comment like this shows a complete lack of interest in the world outside of the U.S. Not only that, but it helps to spread the belief that traveling is something for the elite only, i.e. something that the everyday Joe on main street simply cannot afford to do. This is a dangerous thing to be saying to a country that is already full of people afraid of the international world. We should be looking up to people who encourage others to see that world and meet people from other countries, not ones that exude ignorance and close-mindedness about the world.

Below is a time lapse video of part of the solar panel installation at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center in San Diego, California. The system is being installed by Sullivan Solar Power. This video covers one full day of work. This is a 41 kW system made up of 276 individual panels and will be providing 100% of the energy needs for the facility.

Here is one more Point Loma, San Diego panorama. This one was also taken from Cabrillo National Monument, and that’s the old Point Loma Lighthouse on the left.
